Laundry know-how

Care labels, decoded

Every garment carries a care label, and most laundry disasters start with ignoring it.

Here is what the common symbols mean. We read every label before anything goes in a machine.

  • Machine wash, 30 °C

The number is the hottest water allowed. Bars under the tub mean a gentler cycle.

  • Hand wash only

Cool water, gentle squeeze, no wringing. We hand wash these too.

  • Do not wash

Water will damage it. Usually a dry-clean job.

  • Do not bleach

No chlorine or oxygen bleach. Stains are treated another way.

  • Tumble dry, low heat

One dot is low, two is normal. A cross means air dry only.

  • Iron, medium heat

One dot up to 110 °C, two up to 150 °C, three up to 200 °C.

  • Professional dry clean

The letter tells the cleaner which solvent to use: P, F, or W for wet cleaning.

  • Do not dry clean

Solvents would harm it. Washed by hand or machine instead.

Not sure what a label means? Hand it over anyway and tell us. If something looks risky, we ask before we wash.

Why ArkLaundry

Small enough to care, organised enough to rely on

ArkLaundry is a London laundry and dry-cleaning service for businesses and homes. We work in one city only, so every pickup is planned around London’s streets, parking rules and building entrances, not a national depot.

Honest about stains

If a mark will not shift, we say so instead of sending it back as clean.

FAQ

Laundry questions, answered

?

Is there a laundry service near me in London?

If you are anywhere in London's 33 boroughs, yes. We collect from your door, so the nearest laundry is the one that comes to you. Find your borough on our areas page.

What is the difference between wash & fold and dry cleaning?

Wash & fold is for everyday clothes, towels and bedding that can go in water: washed, dried and folded. Dry cleaning cleans with solvents instead of water, for suits, wool coats, silk and anything labelled dry clean only.

Do you do commercial laundry for businesses?

Yes: short-let and Airbnb linen, hotel and guest-house linen, restaurant and café textiles, gym towels, and spa and salon linen, on a regular collection.

How should I get my laundry ready?

Empty the pockets, put delicates in a separate bag with a note, and point out any stains and what caused them. That is all.

Which parts of London do you cover?

All 33 London boroughs, from the City out to Havering and Hillingdon. Tell us your postcode when you ask for a quote.

Do you work with businesses and homes?

Both. Airbnb hosts, hotels, restaurants, cafés, gyms, spas and salons on a regular round, and households whenever they need us.

How do prices work?

Home laundry is priced by weight or by the item, and business linen by the item, all listed on our prices page. Large or regular business volumes get a quote.

Do I need a contract?

No long contract to start. Try a few collections and keep going if it works for you.

What if something is damaged or lost?

Tell us straight away. Every business bag is counted in and out, and we will put it right.
